Dear Diary,

After reading one of my diaries, Hedwig told me that I needed to stop saying “I will do…” and just DO stuff. And I couldn’t agree less. Around 1436, a German by the name Johannes Gutenberg, invented the printing press. Those who are familiar with publishing history prior to his invention know that most books were written and then recopied by professional recopiers. His invention was a contribution to medieval and contemporary history and technology. When I look at this world, I realise that we’re all just passengers and we’ll soon leave — but what will be my contribution to humanity?

Fanny once asked me if I’ve ever asked myself — maybe the purpose of my existence was to help others and by helping others, be taken advantage of too. A lot of us spend our lives and die without knowing our purposes or our talents. Finding out what our talents are is one thing and knowing how to use them for the good of ourselves and the rest of humanity is another thing. For those of us who have discovered what our gifts are and deliberately refuse to use them for the greater good, we are doing a great disservice to ourselves, our communities and to our gods. And so, I am here, writing the EMBER CHRONICLES

CHRONICLE 1

Perching on the branches of hope that hung from this tree of despair,

The young bird said to its mother “my wings aren’t strong enough, how do I flap them?”

The mother replied “flap them anyway. If you don’t fly, you die”

But the child didn’t fly and she didn’t die

She squeaked in a loud voice “I shall be the one to break these conventions”

Dear Diary, keep my thoughts as secret as news can be…
