La Vida Loca

When growing up, I’ll always say "life is good" and my brother will reply with "but the world is wicked" Indeed, we live in a wicked world and the evils of man are just so innumerable. But one thing is certain for sure and it is that Life is Good. This expression became popularized with the advent of electronic devices with the brand name LG. The reason I’m talking about LG is because the expression Vida Loca has been falsely interpreted to mean the good life. Which isn’t true at all. La Vida Loca has been misused as much as the et cetera(etc) But what does la Vida Loca mean?

La vida loca is Spanish for "The crazy life," which means doing wild and crazy things that make you cool. With the emphasis on wild and crazy things that make you cool, one can only doubt how there has been a proliferation in the false interpretation of the expression. Because, how on earth does living la Vida Loca translate to living the sweet or good life? I guess it’s one of those other misinterpretations of meaning like the case of "Radix malorum est cupiditas".

To what extent are we ready to go in order to have La Vida Loca nowadays? Last week, there was a story online about a young boy who ran mad after he didn’t fulfill the conditions for his mysterious wealth. I don’t know the full story so I can’t assert or refute the claims. A lot of youths nowadays have found ways to make quick money. They’ve become conmen and and conwomen, gigolos and prostitutes. They’ve found everything okay in not working but ripping off the fruits of others' labours. Because to an extent, they all aspire to live the good life while in fact living the crazy life.

Is it so easy to do crazy things just to appear cool in front of others? Well... Until you've been exposed to a certain amount of peer pressure, you won't understand what the desire to fit in is all about. But like they say in the law of torts, there shall be no right of action arising from a despicable cause. And it's not every time that the end justifies the means.

Because after all, the sweet life is la Dulce Vida.
